SHARPENING A PLANE

A plane blade must be sharp or it will gouge, must be free of burrs or it will leave streaks. You plane requires re
sharpening at intervals. The job is done as show here.
1. Lay the blade flat on an abrasive block and remove burrs with a rotary motion.
2. Lay beveled side against stone at a 20' to 30' angle and again use rotary motion to sharpen
3. If preferred, a drum sander, grinding wheel, or other power-operated abrasive surface may be used. Be sure to hold tool firmly and at correct angle. After sharpening on power grinder, finish up on oiled stone-coarse grit first, then fine.
