APPLYING GYPSUM WALLBOARD

1. Apply long side at right angle to framing. Support in assistant's hand hold up ceiling board during nailing.
2. Assistant starts to support the ceiling board as it is carefully edged into place.
3. First nail driven into center of sheet; then nail outward to opposite edge.
4. Left hand holds board against joists while nailing. Nails always "dimple" the surface.
5. No saw is needed.Score both faces of the board with a hooked knife and snap off.
6. Scrap pieces can be used in small areas like the section around a window show above.
7. Board is punctured with saw tip, then cut to provide opening for recessed light fixture.
8. Board knife is used to spread joint cement. It is first step in joint-concealment procedure.
9. Reinforcing tape is applied over cement to entire length of joint and pressed into place.
10. After excess cement is removed, wait a day. Apply second coat wider then first.
11. Fine sandpaper, used with minimum of pressure, helps smooth the surface.
