- Determine which side of door is to be hinged. Locate top of hinge 7" from top jumb, Outline hinge on jumb, cut out mostise to depth of hinge-leaf thickness with a sharp chisel. By holding the chisel flat, the mostise will be cut smooth and level.
- With hinge pin up, attach leaf of hinge to jumb with three screws. Insert door in opening and wedgenupward. Allow7/8" clearance over a carpet, 1/2" over a linotion. Mark the areas to be trimmed away if the door does not fit.
- Trim side of door with jointer plane, working with grain. Latch side is beveled slightly inward to prevent binding.
- Place the trimmed door back in the frame, blocked uptothe necessary clearance, and mark the exact location of top and buttom of hinge. Only a sharp pancil will do this jop accurately. Location buttome hinge 11' above the floor.
- Remove the door again and cut out the mortises for the hinges.By marking horizontal cuts across the grain, scrap can be removed with a sharp chisel without cuting below the marked line. All mortises are cut to the exact depth of the thickness of hing leaves.
- Cut openings for insertion of door latch. Template for positioning is ususally provided with litch. Knob is 36" above floor, An expension bit and standard auger bit are tools necessary for latch placement. After boring, insert and secure the latch.
- Close door and note position where latch marked contact with door jumb. Mark top and buttom of latch on jumb, then position striker plate and cut out mortise for latch.
